I was always confused where the line was drawn between SCJP and SCJA
Assuming that you are talking about OCPJP and OCAJP, this is a very good question and I am interested in knowing the Authors' opinion as well.
In my view though, the exam objectives for both kind of draw a very clear line. You will see that 90% of the topics are different in both the exams. I do see an overlap in some topics such as Exception handing, overloading/overriding, abstract classes and based on our experience the depth of the questions is a little different. Basically, even if the concepts involved are the same, questions are a little harded in OCP JP on these topics.
Our book is intended to prepare you for the OCAJP exam. We assume that you do have some basic Java experience but we do try to start our discussion at a very low level and work up from their. The OCAJP exam is not an exam to be taken lightly. While it is the first exam on the Oracle track it is not a test you can slide though if you can't understand code.
