What is the server run in domain mode means? Normally for a live application which mode the server runs? How those modes differ and what is the purpose of having such modes?

The documentation here https://docs.jboss.org/author/display/AS71/Admin+Guide has all the relevant details. See the "Core management concepts" chapter there for an answer to this question.
