Adding new attributes to an existing user in LDAP

I am trying to add a new attribute to an existing user in LDAP. But it's not adding it. In fact it's throwing the error that that particular property is not present. I am using the following code :

User u = subscriber.getUser(ctx, Util.IDTYPE_DN, dn, null);
ModPropertySet mps = new ModPropertySet();
System.out.println("before property added ");
mps.addProperty(LDIF.ATTRIBUTE_CHANGE_TYPE_ADD, "orclisenabled", "ENABLED");
//mps.addProperty(LDIF.ATTRIBUTE_CHANGE_TYPE_ADD, "orclisenabled", "ENABLED"); // this is also not working
u.setProperties(ctx, mps);

Following exception is being thrown :

oracle.ldap.util.UtilException: NamingException encountered in ldapModify [LDAP: error code 65 - Failed to find orclisenabled in mandatory or optional attribute list.]
	at oracle.ldap.util.Util.ldapModify(Util.java:2482)
