Google loses Australia 'gangland' defamation lawsuit

How can Google be held liable for this? It is a search engine and not the actual content producer. If somebody should get sued, it is the websites that hosts those articles and images not Google. And even if Google removes it, People can still go to those websites. How does it solve the problem?

Googling for my name does not generate any pictures of me in the immediate vicinity of scantily clad women. I think I have sufficient grounds for a lawsuit. What do you think?
