Hi all,
Question for Richard Reese (awesome offer!) or others about java 1.4ish java/certification and preparing for the OCAJP7.

I realize this is an Associate certification, but how much should one worry about generics, annotations, xml, the REST/Webservice JSR's, and swing/applet code (enumerations I will assume to worry about)?

thanky, old java guy trying to keep up with the new!

I'm not really Richard Reese, but I'll give it a go

You don't need to worry about JEE APIs (xml, rest, webservices,...) for this certification. It's all about the standard edition. Also you don't need to worry about Swing & applets.

For the OCAJP 7 you'll need very limited knowledge about generics. You also don't need to know enums (you'll need to know it for OCPJP 7). And you'll probably need a few minor new language features from Java 7 (binary numeric literals, using underscores in numeric literals,...).

In addition to what Roel said, you might want to go through the exam objectives published by Oracle. They are fairly detailed.

The certification is aimed at the standard edition of Java. The link provided by Paul details the topics covered by the exam.
