Planning to take OCMJD exam and I was checking the Oracle site for the requirement. I saw training listed as one of the requirement for getting certified, is taking one of those training a mandatory thing. I checked couple of the training and price for the training is expensive.

Yes. the mandatory training is required. You can take the least expensive training from the list.
Unfortunately the training is mandatory. It was not a boost for its popularity
If you also plan to take the OCMJEA, you can choose a training which is listed in both certifications. So you don't have to take another training for the Architect certification (and save a lot of dollars).

I don't think these numbers will ever be made public.

That's true. The OCPJP 7 covers also more topics where java programmers have to cope with during development (nio2.0, new concurrency api, jdbc,...). But I don't think this extra exam will have the same effect as the mandatory course requirement for OCMJD cert.

True. The cost for the Architect Cert went from £750 to £2750 way too much.
Why would I need a mandatory course when I can get all the info I need from the internet & books.
I foresee changes to Java licensing in the future. I think Oracle will try & align their licensing strategy for Java like they do with their databases & target big businesses.

I think that shouldn't affect you. As you are/were planning for OCMJD, I assume you are already having an older version of OCPJP/SCJP certificate. In this case, you can simply take OCPJP 7 upgrade exam.

Hey Anayonkar,
I already have my OCMJD 6, I got in just before the mandatory course.
I wanted to go on & be a certified Architect but I'm not going to now & I'll not be taking any of the other Developer exams either
