Drag and drop in Windows vs Mac

When I drag from my list onto my drop target I'm creating a custom label to go along with the mouse pointer so the user knows what they're dragging. This works fine on my Mac but when I run the program in Windows 7 the label doesn't show up. It just shows a light grey box at the base of the pointer in windows. Also when the drop is rejected hte icon will slide back to it's originating location, but again not in windows. Any help on this would be appreciated.
