What is an abstratc class ? Why do we need an abstract class or a abstract method? Some please help me understand this.

Read the specs here: JLS7 Section 8.1.1.1. abstract Classes. Or, if you find that too dry, you can go through the tutorial on Abstract Methods and Classes.
