Where is the the virtual machine of the JDK?

If javac is the compiler, then what is the JVM ? Is it java.exe ?
Java Newbie with 72% in OCJP/SCJP - Super Confused Jobless Programmer.

Yes. That's just the executable, though. To do anything useful it would also need the class libraries, which -if memory serves- are in rt.jar and classes.jar (the files might differ from JVM implementation to JVM implementation).

Actually java.exe is just a JVM launcher. The JVM binary is a library (jvm.dll on Windows) that you can find in the bin/client or bin/server directory of your JRE installation.
