That multi volume, beginner friendly book is for Microsoft SQL Server. Are there any similar books for Oracle and MySQL ?

For Oracle RDBMS, you could start with the 2-day guides on their introductory tutorials pages. You'll need access to an Oracle database of course e.g. Oracle XE, but you can download the software for free (registration required) on Oracle's website. If you hit problems with Oracle, try Oracle Technology Network as their forums are pretty active and full of Oracle experts.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
