Supported features of HTML5 on Internet Explorer

Many of the features newly introduced in HTML5 are not supported on one of the standard industry browser which is Internet Explorer. Hence as a designer becomes difficult to leverage effectively the power of HTML5 and hence Javascript.

Any specific reasons for the same and way forward to overcome this incompatibility ?

For compatibility information try caniuse, for providing critical functionality in in non-supporting browsers check out HTML5 Cross Browser Polyfills.
