Because I don't see javascript version 2, 3, ..., n.

Where have you been looking? This page may provide a little background, and here are several different versions of the standard:

  • Version 5.1
  • Version 3(pdf)
  • Version 2
  • Version 1

  • This caniuse page has some ECMAScript v5 browser support details, which should give you an idea of how viable it is for you to use it.

    I agree. Here's the link: http://ej-technologies/jprofiler - if it wasn't for jprofiler, we would need to run our stuff on 16 servers instead of 3.
