How to make compatible code for IE 9 browser,

if(objRtmt==null)
				recCount=0;	
		 else
			while(objRtmt.next())
				recCount++;

this line of code is running in IE6,7,8 but not iterating in IE 9.
please reply as soon as possible,

what is the major reason for compatibility issue of browser. & how to rectify it.

This is Java code? Then you're going to have to explain how you're running it in the browser before anybody can answer your question.
