What are mid-tier Java applications ?

I looked at a job posting and saw that it requires experience in "mid-tier Java applications". From wiki, i think it is the logic tier of multitier architecture. Seems like it involves JSP, Servlets, Beans.

I am still not sure about what all things are a part of this mid-tier. Can someone give me a list of the components (hardware, software etc) that are a part of this tier ?
What are the buzz words related to this tier ? (example - hibernate, spring, apache web server, SOAP, REST etc)

I am a "newbie" too. Please verify my answers before you accept them.
