What is 'Spring framework'? What is covered in the book?

I am preparing for OCPJP 7.
Actually, I hava no idea about what is 'Spring' or what is a 'Spring framework' actually. It would be valuable for me if you could please tell me sir. And how is it useful, I mean what can we achieve by having a 'Spring framework'? And where it can be used? And how Java is associated with it?
And what is covered in your book? Thank you sir!
