Help me to understand jsp deployment descriptor

hi to all i am new to jsp..

i was confused with jsp deployment descriptor because i have no experience with xml..

please explain usage of descriptor and help me to write.. :)

The deployment descriptor is part of the Servlet specification. It's got a lot of parts and it's too complicated to describe in a forum post. The primary purpose is to declare servlets and to map them to URL patterns. But there are lots of other things it can do. Either search for a tutorial, or bite the bullet and look at the Servlet Specification.

but i can find only problems and descriptor with error only

please give some link to basic tutorials.. :) :)

Servlets Specification 3.0

Earlier version if that's what you need: Servlet Specification 2.5
