Adding functionalityto Web-Pages

Yeah does anyone have any good recommendations as to starting off. I am trying to start my own design business. I need to add functionality to contact forms and server side scripts. I want to use Java to do it. Between JSF, Web Services or whatever. What would you recommend? Do you have a link to get me started?
