This week's book giveaway is in the OCAJP 8 forum. We're giving away four copies of OCA Java SE 8 Programmer I Study Guide and have Edward Finegan & Robert Liguori on-line! See this thread for details.
I am a java proffessional and have more than 5 yrs of development experience. Now I am on a break and want to take a certification in java. Previously I had planned to take directly SCJP 1.6 , but now I can see a lot of new certifications and pre-requisite changes after Oracle takeover. I learned that if I want to take 1.7 , I will have to take a prior certitification for it. As I wanted a quick and in-budget one, I still see SCJP 1.6 more appealing to me. I just want opinion from you guys. Is the OCPJP 6 is worth the effort or I better go for 7? I mean if I take the OCPJP 6 now, when a higher version is available , will it still add the same value to my resume? I think you got my point.
Another question is regarding the preperation of the exam. I have "SCJP 6 Study guide by Kathy Sierra and Bert Bates" with me but the number on it says Exam 310-065. I guess it is changed to 1Z0-851 now. My question is if I prepare for the exam(for OCPJP 6 or 7) with this book , will it be sufficient or do I need to look for the same book with the exact same number that is 1Z0-851 ?
Thanks in advance for the kind replies,
Good day to all of you.
Well it depends on you really. Doing the v7 exams will give you the opportunity to also learn the v7 new features. If you do v6, you can always do the upgrade later.
In terms of prep, the K&B v6 study guide will enable you to pass the OCA v7 exam.
Given your background, you looked like you have enough experience to tackle the JP exam. Plus you already have v6 study guide ... if I were you, I would do v6 now. Do the upgrade later when you get a chance to actually use v7 features.
