How to connect java application to my laptop webcam ?

Hi friends ! I'm working on a project where i need to take a picture of user and store in database. I want to capture it through my laptop webcam.
My laptop is Acer 4720 and webcam name is Crystal Eye. Do i need to know port no or port name of my laptop cam to connect to my java application ?
What i need to study to connect java with these kind of hardware and ports please guide me as I'm new....

I'm ready to study anything and give efforts please...

I've never used it and I could be wrong, but I believe JMF (Java Media Framework) supports video capture.

@Darryl ya your right but is JMF a concept in java or a software cause my senior soft engineer had installed it on my laptop but i have no idea what it is but if you know more then please tell me
