communication between windows and unix/linux

I have a question -- is there a way to enable communication between windows and unix/linux through a socket or something ? tired running server in unix terminal and client in windows command prompt by a simple java socket program (through port 5000) ... not getting favorable solon !!! help is appreciated

Are both programs (on Windows and in Unix) both Java programs? I am not saying it is required to be so, but such would not matter on the OS. That is a java to java communication, which should be flawless. It doesnt matter what OS you are using as long as it supports Java.

I wouldn't say that - Java doesn't abstract away the matter of Endianness.
