The question I'm being asked:

What determines where the txtOutput string appears on the JPanel?

I believe the question is connected to this code:

txtOutput += "Sales Person " + (x + 1) + ": $" + sales[x] + "";

Nothing in that code has anything to do with displaying a string in a JPanel. All that is happening there is that some data is being appended to an existing string value.

So the code which answers your question is elsewhere.
