Welcome to the JavaRanch, Tawfiq!

Your problem is that the database userID that you have logging the connection pool in from does not have sufficient authority to do what you want to do to the ADDRESS table in your database.

So it's not really a Tomcat problem. Just a database user security issue.

Customer surveys are for companies who didn't pay proper attention to begin with.

first thank your for the response, I have created the database with no authentications enabled. I can connect to the derby db using the ij utility and select from the address table with out authentication. So is it different if I am using the db in embeded mode within connection pooling setting? if so what is the recommendation to resolve this issue.?

I'm going to take a wild guess and consider "ij utility" to mean database browser within an IntelliJ IDE. And if that's the case, it's very likely that you used a JDBC URL connection string, which, in turn means that you DID authenticate, whether you realized it or not.

And if all of the above assumptions are true, then you should be using the same criteria to define your Tomcat connection pool.

Finally, since you mentioned embedded Derby, don't forget that if you have 2 copies of the database - embedded and non-embedded, they each have their own set of access rules.

Don't get me started about those stupid light bulbs.
