Hi am software engineer on java from India.I have been doing coding as software engineer. Now my experience has increased to 5 years. In the coming years what can be the roles I can be working on. I know one most common in Team Leader. I like working independently mostly. What other alternatives will be for me in the coming years? I am also looking for a change of job. So want to know a few things.Do all senior developers in indian software companies have to become team leaders or there can be positions where you are doing something other than being leader of a big team. I think not all become team leaders but what others become I do not know after their experience increases.?I would appreciate suggestions if you know any alternatives too as I have to plan.?

Thanks a lot.

In the US, choices are to stay as a developer, become a tech lead, become an architect, becomes a business analyst, become a manager, etc.''

All of these involve working with a team. Even if you stay a developer, you'll find yourself mentoring junior developers more over time. Just because you'll know more.. And tech is constantly changing, so there will also be challenge in being a developer.

It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
