Hello,
I just passed OCJP 6 (IZO-851) with an 88 score yesterday. I don't use Java on the job, and mostly I read off and on over a period of several months for this exam. I did the 3 exams that come with the book (CD exam + extra exams on registering online) and got about 60 - 65% on all of them. I also used the mock test at scjptest.com and scored 80% on it.

In my opinion, the real exam was way more easier than the exams that come with the Sierra-Bates book. I feel it is more than adequate for the real test.

Good luck to all!

Regards

That is great to hear! I am taking the OCJP exam in a few weeks. Is is necessary to do the extra exam that you get when you register online?

I can't pinpoint a particular benefit of taking the extra exam, but it does have some questions that will test your understanding of the topics from a different perspective than the exam included with the CD.

The exams you speak of are not available for a Mac user; what would you suggest a Mac user do to prepare for the real exam?

I am not of much help to you in that regard. I would definitely recommend taking SOME practise tests as it puts you in the right frame of mind on how to tackle questions on the exam. But since this is all I did (I use Windows 7), I don't know where else to look for tests that might work for Mac.

I wouldn't worry about the score. I think what's important is that you study the questions that you didn't do well on and make sure you understand why you got them wrong. Make notes on those items and pay special attention to those items when you revise at the end. Trust me, the real exam is much easier. And at the end of the day, it's a mind game.

I had access to 3 exams (once I registered through the link in the CD). My 1st exam score was the lowest. but I was able to gain from that experience and score better on the next 2 exams. You can do the mock test at scjptest.com last (as it is very easy :-)), and is a good morale booster right before the real exam.

Thank you and Congratulations James on your certification!!! I think where the Sierra - Bates book helped me the most was I could pace myself at will on the real exam because the Sierra-Bates tests were so much harder. It is a great book for this exam indeed!
