We are implementing role based security in our applications, i have some basic questions from desing perspective

(1) Are there are standard framework to implement this i.e show hide menus and buttons or disable enable html elementsbased on Role
(2) how do i manage the business rules when i have roles ?

I worked in few applications before were we used sessions and then basically managed them in each jsp page and action classes, wanted to know if there are any, other standard ways
