client mac address using http protocol

is it possible to get client mac address using http protocol and display on jsp page.
I need this mac address to register corresponding system to the user who is using that system.
I read earlier post related to this but that is too old... any new API came for that.

No, HTTP has no provisions for that. Neither does HTML, unless you consider using an ActiveX control or a signed applet, both unappealing solutions.

But how does a MAC address identify a user? Surely several users might use the same computer, and one user might use several computers... ?

I need to register user on that name hardware was issued ....
if my server is running in same LAN then it is possible ?
