I have the pleasure of putting together a small application development team in the Orlando area. We will be developing, enhancing and maintaining websites and applications for a resort company. I have a few different positions open from junior to senior.
Here are some skills I am looking for.
Experience with Java is required.
Experience with a server-side programming language is required (examples: JSP, PHP, Ruby on Rails, etc…).
Experience with JSP is a plus.
Experience with JQuery is a plus.
Basic SQL and database design experience is required.
SpringWebMVC experience is a plus, but not required.
These are all full time positions, after 90 days you will receive health coverage and vacation time. Very relaxed/fun work environment.

While I agree that it is the same thing, I don't think that was Bear's point. I believe Bear's point is that you are no longer being competitive -- which may have an affect on getting candidates. Consultants, particularly short term consultants (such as those on 90 day contract), generally get paid much higher than full time employees. And one of the main reasons they get paid more, is because they don't get benefits.
I'll add another point. Cities like Orlando are very highly oriented towards families. And people with families don't take chances with health insurance. You can have the best role in the world, but with that requirement, you'll likely get a majority of submissions from the newly unemployed (who still have COBRA).
