i call a javascript function by using <a href onblur="javascript:first();"> i defined a javascript function .but i am getting function not defined error.please help me what cani do?

Firstly, please take the time to choose an appropriate forum for your posts. This forum is for questions on JSP, not JavaScript. For more information, please click this link ⇒ CarefullyChooseOneForum. This post has been moved to a more appropriate forum.

Secondly, lose the "javascript:" prefix. It's superfluous and unneeded.

Is the first() function defined elsewhere on the page? If so, show it to us.

Give us a little more information regarding your function declaration etc.

function is not defined is saying exactly what your problem is. The function is not defined in the current scope of the page.
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
