I heard this phrase a few times from tv when high level managements talk about their enterprise software system but I am not sure what it means, does anyone know? For example, there was a time when the phrase was used as "our tool... provides a holistic view of all the parties involved.. " what does that mean?

I don't think that there is a definition that fits all cases -- but I can try...

Let's say you have a monitoring system that gives you a view into your database, a view into your messaging system, a view into your application server, and a view into your application. And let's say that it is all green -- meaning everything is running fine.... but your customers are complaining because the data doesn't seem right. Now, what do you do?

A "holistic view", is, well, kinda of a buzz word ... ... but it is saying that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. It is not enough to monitor all the parts, you have to be able to monitor all the parts in a way to provide enough information to solve problems that isn't specific to a part. Or provide a monitoring dash board that is more related to the business problem that you are trying to solve, than the technology. etc.
