Confusion over "insert="false" update="false""

I am getting "Repeated column in mapping for entity: <field_name> (should be mapped with insert="false" update="false")"

In various forums adding "insert=false; update=false" has fixed the problem. But i am still getting the error.

Just want to know where (parent table mapping or child table mapping) we need to put that and we should put "insert: false, update: false" or "insertable: false, updatable: false"

Could somebody clarify?
