Could please recommend 1,2 or 3 certifications that support one's java knowledge as a programmer and help ones standing out among the crowd and having betters chances on getting a job?

I assume this is to the group in general rather than to me personally. Since I don't program in java and hold no certifications, I may be the wrong person to ask.

I defer both when hiring for clients and personally to have a series of project successes - and write them up as short case-studies - over any specific certification.

There are many other effective ways to stand out other than getting certified

1. hands on experience via volunteer work and open-source contribution
2. effective resumes
3. Good interview preparation.
4. Networking

IMHO certifications do teach you a lot of things you might not come across in beginner books or you might overlooked. So, you will learn something useful. However, interviewers don't really care much about certifications. They seem to prefer experience more. I went to a couple of interviews and believe me this is how the interviewers almost reacted when I proudly told them that I had Java certs -

But, I would still go for it if I were you because knowledge helps.
