sms/email alert in dynamic web application

hi friends, i want to create a dynamic web project using servlet(Eclipse) which consists of e-mail & sms alerts for forget password options & for other related fields. i have no idea about how to implement this. please give me some idea.

Well JavaMail is pretty easy to use for basic messages here's a tutorial http://www.tutorialspoint.com/java/java_sending_email.htm

The only way I've sent sms messages is to email to the appropriate address usually looks like <phone number>@provider.net

So I either have a drop down menu to choose provider or have them email me from the phone. I'm sure there's a better way but never dug too deeply.
