Hi,
I am fresher and I have no experience in Java Programming
I already have Kathy&Bert's SCJP6 (310-065) book

I have several Questions.

1) I want to take OCPJP7 Exam; Which of the following way would be suitable for me.
i) OCPJP6 (1Z0-851) -> OCPJP7 (1Z0-805)
ii) OCAJP7(1Z0-803) -> OCPJP7 (1Z0-804)
iii) Only OCAJP7(1Z0-803)

2) How many days I need to prepare?

3) Do I need separate study material?

4) Will this certification help me in getting my first job, I have weaker academics?

Hi Pranav,

1) I would suggest you go with 2nd option. The Associate 7 exam and then the Professional 7 exam.

2) You'll need around 6-8 weeks if you are new to Java.

3) If you have the SCJP6 book you'll have to use some extra study material. There are some new features of Java 7 which are tested in the new exam. Also some objectives have changed so only the SCJP 6 book is not enough.

4) I'm not sure if the certification can get you a job. But IMO the knowledge you'll gain through the exam would increase your chances of clearing an interview...

Thank you so much for reply.

Can you recommend study material?

For OCPJP 7, you can rely on the book by Ganesh/Sharma.

Pranav,

To earn the OCPJP7 certification, number 2 is the best option.

If you do not have any experience of working with Java, I don't recommend starting right away with a certification preparation book. Get a hang of Java programming and concepts using books like 'Head First Java' or 'Thinking in Java'.

As Jeanne mentioned, learing how to program in Java is like learning how to drive. And writing a certification exam is like your driving test. When you learn how to drive, you start with the basics, without caring much about corner cases. But when you appear for the driving test, the test will ensure that apart from knowing the basic driving you know cases like - how to prevent your car from rolling back, if it stops while driving uphill.

Good Luck to you.

With respect,
Mala
