1. What steps should I take for the Java certification examination ?

a. Since I belong to a low income family so I can't buy that Training kit from oracle website(of huge amount).
b. I can buy books.
c. Can read online material such as Oracle Java tutorial page which is free.

2. What type of questions being asked in that certification test (since I've no idea) ?

a. What's the pattern.
b. Is there any website where I can find the type of questions and practice.
c. Any book recommendation(especially for code and puzzles in Java Programming).

3. I'm an engineering(computer science) student who is in final year from India. Am I thinking in the right direction ?

Hi Rasul,

First of all, I will answer your last question. If you want to opt Java as your career then you should go for this certification as its definitely an advantage, both to your knowledge and career.

Now for your first question, its not mandatory to buy a training kit from Oracle or to join any coaching classes. If you can study on your own, then you can clear the exam. I did not purchase any training material. A good book, practice tests, online help and java ranch will suffice.

Regarding the type of questions, first start your study from a book(suggestions given below). The questions given at the end of each chapter will give you an idea of the pattern and practice tests after your preparation will fairly prepare you for the exam.

Suggested Books:

SCJP Sun Certified Programmer for Java 6 Study Guide by Katherine Sierra and Bert Bates (K&B)
A Programmer's Guide to Java SCJP Certification: A Comprehensive Primer by Khalid A. Mughal and Rolf W. Rasmussen

Dont forget to make as many programs as possible.

Hope this helps
Cheers!!!

first of all i wish you the best of luck in this career, today i just finished my OCP java 6 programmer and got 98%

and my study guides where

1- SCJP SCJD 1.6 Kathy Sierra & Bert Bates

as said before, in my opinion this is the STRONGEST study guide i ever saw, and some times i used Java First Head for O'Rielly, this is very easy book and helps explaining lots of stuff that seems bit hard in the SCJP book

2- OCP Java SE 6 Programmer Practice Exams

by the same authors as well

3- i downloaded some exams from torrentz.com that are uploaded by people, something like CertPal and that stuff

and most of the exam questions were from those exams i downloaded

since you have a problem with money

i can share them to you but on one condition, that you buy them as soon as you can, i have all of those as soft copies, and this is a matter of copy rights

Hi Ahmed,
How much time approximately do we need to prepare for this exam.. And did you refer SCJP(Exam 310-065) and you have appeared for 1Z0-851 right. Also I heard that some topics have been removed from the latest version of this exam. So can you tell me exactly what has been removed? And which area should I focus more.
Thanks for the reply

time : nearly 6 months, maybe less or more, for me, i study in small portions, nearly 3 hours aday, and i take 2 days OFF every week, i finished it in 9 months with score 98%, i have a friend that finished earlier than me and he did well as well

and yes, i refer for the 310-065 and appeared for 1z0-851, they are the same exam, just oracle changed the exam name after it got sun under it's brand

and there are 2 subjects that are removed

the DRAG & DROP questions
the SERIALIZATION objective (but it's nearly 2 pages, so knowing it is better)

and which area you should focus more, i think you should focus very carefully on the Q&A's exams that are alike CERT pal and Test King and that stuff, they hold nearly 70% of the exam's Questions

but there is no certain topic to focus on

hey Priyamvada Sharma here is the answer for your question,

The time taken to prepare for exam is depends on your preparation only. I suggest you a link that may be helpful to you

http://www.epractizelabs.com/certification-advisor/time-estimator.php?s=2

If you are going to take SCJP 6 then you can try K&B's book for basics.

For mock exam you may use SCJP 6 training Lab.

Why not you try OCPJP7? - OCPJP7 is the latest version available now.
