Page Layout

I am having such a hard time getting my page to look right and to remain intact when the page is being scaled.

I have a main div container, float left, width 100%, height auto.

I then place a navigation container in the main, float left, width 225px, height 100%.

Then I place a content body within the main container, float left, width (MY QUESTION)?, height 100%.

How do I get this body container to take the rest of the page width automatically.

This body content will hold various other container layouts during the application and needs to be dynamic in its width and height.

Is it better to have a right fixed container to go along with the left fixed container to make the container in between more dynamic?

I really need some help here.
