Servlet and HTML forms

I'm studying the behavior of HTML forms when handled by Servlet. I came across the below statement, which I'm not able to understand clearly:

An HTML select element also sends a string to the header. If none of the options in the select element is selected, the value of the option that is displayed is sent.

Please help me understand the above statment.

The first part makes no sense to me. The second simply says that the first option is the default.

It's definitely a mistake. The below sentence makes sense:

An HTML select element also sends a string to the server. If none of the options in the select element is selected, the value of the option that is displayed is sent.
 
With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
