Looking for an easy cloud service, preferable free

I'd like a cloud service easy to use, do you have any sugestions? It would be fine just write simple text files, like PHP for instance, and put on the cloud to make the web app I need...
But can be in Java, too (I'm more familiar with this one, indeed)

Maybe you can look into Google App Engine more info.
You can use Python and/or Java. PHP and Go are experimental.

"Cloud service" is such a fuzzy term that it's almost meaningless. What differentiates the service you're looking for from traditional hosting?

Amazon is free for a year. It has several cloud services, and it can provide you with the barebones machines so you can just install whatever you want
