confused to decide role in team

I have 6.5 years experience in java and recently i joined new company with new project. At start from acquisition phase to steady state, i was leading a complex java application. Now thing is my manager have appointed a senior resource as a lead for java cluster which includes my application. This new resource is just a SPOC (single point of contact) for client and involved in interaction with client. But nowadays this person just collects data from me and conducts meetings and i am listener there. Looking at his way of communication, handling things , technical capability , I think i was and still can do far better with quality. Almost all technical issues are solved by me.

But again i dont have authority to ask something to team now and i am like a developer inspite of doing major things. This has been frustrating nowadays to me and i am thinking what exactly i am in team. what is my role after 6.5 years? i aspire to be a team lead and am doing that level of work. But this is not satisfying anymore as i have to listen to this new guy every now and then. He is just a mediator and does nothing technical in project. Just thing is, he is having 1.5 year more experience and doing management activities. I dont get involved in things now as my interest level has been down and feel frustrated.

Please help with your suggestions as i think if i am capable and still get treated like normal developer. I am interested in technical lead role where i can take decisions and get credit of it.

You are already doing what you aspire to.

and get credit of it.


So the crux of the issue then is that this person is stealing your thunder. Or am I mistaken ?

Problem is i have many ideas of improving way of working, improving things in project, improving response and resolution time for issue resolution. but ultimately i dont have authority to ask team to work on these things as i alone cant do this all. I need to tell these to this guy and he secretly shares these with my manager looping me out. Again will come back to me to work on those things. So if i am capable and was doing lead job earlier, can i ask some authority of team to my manager? or which role and what way should I ask this to my manager?

I would suggest the best thing for you would be to switch jobs where you get the profile which you aspire for.

Thanks Maneesh. yes its co-incidence of name.

I am still not sure. If i want to go ahead with same situation, what should be my take for future hold on project? As once my dependency gets reduced things will not be same like current one. I will lost all my hold.
