hello!! i am planning to take up ocjp se 6 by november.I am new to java.have a good knowledge in c and c++.it would be of great help if anyone could suggest any books and links to start with java.thank you!!

We have a list of resources in the SCJP FAQ. Note that SCJP 6 and OCJP 6 are the same exam. It was renamed when Sun bought Oracle. Take a look at the list and post back if you have follow up questions.

Preetham,
Yes, "Head First Java" is a good starting point. It's not a certification book, but you need to learn Java before reading a certification book. Then K&B will focus you on what you need to know for the certification.

It sounds like you have a good plan!
