Deployment environment

I am studying "Head First Servlets & JSP".
I have a small doubt. Do we really need to concentrate on deployment environment, explained in Chapter 3 Mini MVC?
Because on the job, we create .war,.ear using IDEs and deploy it to weblogic server.

no you need not follow the steps outlined there. you can use any IDE you like. actually java web applications have a standard directory layout. whether you do it manully as outlined in the book or use IDE ultimately the directory strucute will be according to the specifications.
 
It is sorta covered in the JavaRanch Style Guide.
