I'm bemused as my IntelliJ does not detect any sort of errors in my Scala class? Is there any setting that I should enable? I use the community edition 11.1.3.

Did a rm -R / to find out that I lost my entire Linux installation!

Ok. It was the type aware highlighting that I had to enable. I did that and now I get to see the errors!
 
With a little knowledge, a cast iron skillet is non-stick and lasts a lifetime.
