...to begin the Java Design Patterns?...

On a side note, there are no Java design patterns, just like there are no .NET or PHP or Cobol design patterns. Design patterns are abstracted away from the actual language, and provide solutions to solving common design problems. The implementation of these patterns are language specific, not the pattern itself.

Well, this is "the Bible"; but it's almost 20 years old now, and has been superceded by other, more Java-centric books. Whether they're any better or not though, I have no idea.

Mark Grand has published 2 volumes of "Patterns in Java" though I can't recommend them. If I want to review a design pattern I still go to the 'Gang of Four' bible.
