I'm a fresh owner of an iPad 4. I managed to get emails on it, but I seem to be unable to set new email notifications to my liking.

What I currently have: the Mail app is not in Notification Center. Furthermore, in Configuration/Sounds, the New Mail sound is set to None. Yet, when new mail arrives, a sound is played.

What I'd like to achieve: use Notification Center for new emails, but without any sound for new emails whatsoever.

I've tried various other settings, but to no avail. The sound is not played only when all sounds are turned off.

Can someone rescue me?

Hi Martin

Looking at this link: http://www.imore.com/how-customize-notification-center-alerts-your-iphone-and-ipad

It states the following:
Note: Some built-in apps like Mail and Messages, and built-in services like Twitter won't have a disable sounds option in Notification Center, but rather put them under Sounds. (It would be nice if Apple put them all in one place, or even duplicated them in Notification Center for consistency.)

You may be out of luck on this one I'm afraid.

That merely says that it is configured at a different place. My problem is that the configuration I set there is not honored. Shall I file a bug?

It was sort of a gift, so no conscious choice on my part. (Yet I'm a bit surprised, since this seems to be a pretty basic thing, I wouldn't expect problems with it.)

Martin

Are you using the standard mail client with the iPhone?

Also, you mentioned Settings > Sounds. Have you looked under Settings > Notifications > Mail.

Yes, I'm using the standard mail client (it's connected to Exchange, but I guess it shouldn't matter). I'm using an iPad, not iPhone though - iOS 6.1.3 - it says it is up to date.

In Settings/Notifications/Mail, I have the following settings:
Notification Center: off
Alert style: none
Badge app icon: on
New Mail Sound: none
Show Preview: off
View in Lock Screen: off

In Settings/Sounds, New Mail is set to None as well.
