RecursiveTask.compute() visibility issue

Hi everyone,
Taking the following snippet from this link http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/api/java/util/concurrent/RecursiveTask.html:

I thought it was protected and due to that fact it's not possible to declare any overriding method with a less visible access modifier..
Is it a javadoc bug? I cannot use my computer to check it out as of now.
Thanks in advance.
