Can someone advice me with the pros and cons of working for a start-up company during mid year of our career say after having 12 yrs of experience. Would it be a wise decision if I quit my corporate job now and join my friends start-up company ? with a known risk of taking lesser pay than the current pay but with a possibility of getting good equity(not as stake holder) ?

It depends what your threshold for risk is and your desired work environment. The risk is that the startup might fold. The work environment comes from startups tending to have longer hours.

If its early age startup(Not more than 6 months IMO), it may be an advantage. Some funding atleast for 1.5 to 2 years will be there from VCs.You can find out who are the VCs who are doing funding.Domain area and clientele are important. In India, most software startups wanted to be in retail. For startup to surive in retail is very challenging(atleast in India). You can read in media how much funding Flipkart needed even after 5 years of its inception.Mobile App startups look promising but getting crowded ,IMO.
1)Regardless of success or failure of startup, its not very difficult to find next jobs.
2)Is startups becomes profitable, then stocks etc
3)Experience you get in startup is much broader in technical/business area than big companies.
1)Extended working hours.
2)Pay may be less in beginning period.
