Data Import thru Excel Spreadsheets

Don't know if this is the right group to ask in.
I have prepared a template for our client to import
data from a POS system to our newly created CRM
The spreadsheet has a new customer worksheet.
There, we have a new sales transaction worksheet.
The customer IDs are to be generated by the system
when they get imported.
So the sales data need to have a Customer ID
along with them so that they know which
customer buys which item.
I can't have an item directly associated with the customer name
because many customers may have the same name

So how can I deal with this situation?
1) I can't directly hard code the customer ID into the customer worksheet
2) The sales data needs to have a customer ID to work with.

If it's important that purchases by the same customer are associated to each other (which would of course be a neat thing to do, and is probably one of the main points of having a CRM), then this needs to be done at the time of the purchase in some way. There are several ways this might be accomplished, but the mechanics depend on the circumstances of the over all system architecture, like which data is available, to whom, at what time, etc. (about all of which we know nothing, so we can't speculate about it).
I agree. Here's the link:
