downloading Hibernate and Spring for Eclipse

Hi Ranchers!

I need to practice Spring and HIbernate for a possible job opportunity. I have about 7 days to do some studying. Anyway. I think I got the plugins downloaded via eclipse, how can I test this? And is this possible, I thought months ago I read you cannot download plugins for spring/hibernate in eclipse?

Can someone tell me how to check and also how to please fix it if not, and if someone can take control of my screen using a free program, I WOULD really appreciate it. Please keep in mind this is urgent, so I do not want to waste days downloading it.

Also, I need apache tomcat as well, and enginx of possible, but definitely AT.

Thanks

Have you seen the Spring tutorials and guides on the spring.io site?

Carol, thanks. Does that mean I can build a Spring application without downloading anything? Odd, but I guess I am a noob when it comes to J2EE so what do I know.

But the thing is, I swear I FEEL that I properly downloaded Spring and Hibernate plugins, and I was able to see the Spring one last week, but now I cannot, I tried uninstalling and installing, and I get nothing. Similar mishap with Hibernate. Do you think you could find it in the kindness of your little ol' heart to help a poor, helpless chap such as myself? And help me install Spring/Hibernate and another plugin I have tried, I am dead serious, I am not just coming here expecting people to help me without having tried.

I don't know what eclipse with spring plugin looks like as I just downloaded the Spring Tool Suite.

What did you see before that you are not seeing now? Do you know what "perspective" is currently displaying in your eclipse? In the Spring perspective the title bar of my eclipse window says "Spring - blah blah blah". In the upper right corner of my eclipse a couple different perspectives are displayed and there is an "Open Perspective" icon. Or you can go to the "Window - Open Perspective - Other" and Spring is one of the choices.

If you do not find a Spring perspective after installing Spring plugin and re-starting eclipse, then let's step back a minute. What exactly did you install? Spring Tool Suite from the eclipse marketplace or something else? What version of eclipse are you using?

I'm sorry but if I were trying to learn spring and hibernate for a job in 7 days, I wouldn't mess around with the plugin, and go straight to learning spring+hibernate. In 7 days you will probably understand how to use the plugin, but if your potential employer doesn't use the plugin, you are screwed.

We have been using spring hibernate in a team of 20+ people for 2 years, and none of them uses the plugin. We have specified dependencies to spring and hibernate in our maven build, and we just have m2eclipse. Never used the spring plugin.

I think if you are just trying to learn, the best thing is to download the spring and hibernate jars, add them to your class path and start trying out some samples. You are probably being very aggressive in trying to learn in 7 days, unless you have some prior expertise in IOC, AoP and ORM already.

Carol. I am using eclipse Juno I believe 4.2. Before, when I would go to start new project, Spring was an option and their was a spring new project icon on the top bar. I'll check on my PC tomorrow if their is a doting perspective I can choose. I had downloaded the Sts suite for eclipse within the marketplace. Can you control my PC and do it fir me? I want to or active for work but also practice even after work starts. When I say plugin, I mean downloading spring/hibernate/nginx so I can use them. Can I make spring/hibernate programs without it?

I agree with Jayesh. You could focus on building something with Spring without the spring plugin or even without an IDE first.

Did you take a look at the spring Guides and tutorials I linked to? If you haven't used maven before you could start with something like Building java projects with maven or Building java projects with gradle.. Set up the project from scratch.

You may notice that those don't actually use spring, but all the other guides and tutorials on the spring.io/guides page use maven or gradle for the builds. So you will be all set up for those.

When I did some of those, the tutorials used spring 3.2.3.RELEASE whereas the guides used 4.0 milestone (sounds like spring 4 is to be released very soon.).

Carol, thanks. Do I need Maven experience before I do those tutorials? I do not really know whaty Maven is. But I need those plugins because after I start work I still want to keep practicing. I will need to practice outside of work. Can you please help me get my PC configured? I would not mind paying a small fee for this simple service.

No you do not need maven experience before doing the tutorial. Only you can decide the priority of your learning. Sorry if my responses do not seem helpful.

No, I do not do consulting work.

Regarding your error, sounds like a new post in the IDE/build forum would be in order with details about the error and what exactly you were doing.
