Can't get the selected value of select in JSP

Guys, I was assign to create a small web app to upload a file, along with a combo box to select some category. File uploads perfectly. But I cannot catch the combo box value.. where should I put "request.getParameter("categories")" in my servlet.. any help much appriciated..

You already have if (!item.isFormField()) which gets the file, the else part would be
