In the Value List Handler pattern, could you place valueListHandler into Servlet session ? if yes, which layer ? in the controller class ?

I always considered this pattern to be more like a session facade layer thing. When I looked at the pattern page for it, the page even says that it can be thought of as a specialized session facade.
