there is no windows forum like linux and OSX, so i post this here.
this icon just appeared on my desktop. i have no homegroup. why did this icon suddenly show up?

This can come up when you join a network and or configure your network as a 'Home' location. But it also seems to come up randomly (maybe a bug or maybe some side effect of a network state change). Any, you can turn it off:
